The D. E. Shaw group seeks an exceptional analyst to join its Fundamental Equities Data team. This role supports our Fundamental Equities group by focusing on evaluating and integrating unique alternative data assets to enhance investment insights. It offers the opportunity to solve open-ended problems and see how small details interrelate to impact the bigger picture in an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment. In addition to working closely with our Fundamental Equities team, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with other groups around the firm, including Credit Opportunities, Macro, and Asset-Backed Securities, as well as our global team of analysts in Hyderabad, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

What you’ll do day-to-day

You’ll support Fundamental Equities strategies by independently pursuing data opportunities and building analytical models. You’ll develop models to forecast key performance indicators (KPIs) using alternative data and generate actionable insights to support investment decisions. You’ll continuously monitor, analyze, and assess data trends, market movements, and data source quality, communicating your findings and recommendations to colleagues, as well as technical and non-technical stakeholders. You’ll be expected to become an expert in applying data to the investment process, combining both traditional methods and the firm’s systematic capabilities. You’ll draw principled conclusions from data, ensure your work adheres to the legal and compliance framework of the firm, and identify and address potential data integrity and cleanliness challenges.

Who we’re looking for
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical or quantitative field, a demonstrated record of academic and professional achievement, and two to five years of relevant experience are required.
  • Well-developed quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities; keen attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and impressive interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to dive into details, take initiative, collaborate effectively with a global team, and manage and drive complex projects to completion is essential.
  • We seek candidates with proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages, specifically Python and SQL, and advanced working knowledge of Excel.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
