SENIOR DATA ANALYST

Job description

The Senior Data Analyst is part of a core team that enables strategic decision making throughout the company. Strong verbal and written communication, with time management skills are key to success in this role. This role will be able to consume, process and analyze the largest household goods datasets in the world in collaboration with other analysts, investigators, and subject matter experts. The right candidate should be passionate about data and analytics with a positive and solution-oriented mindset.

The work location for this role is flexible if approved by UniGroup except this position may not be performed remotely from Colorado.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Advocates for improvements to data quality, security, and query performance that have impact across your data domain.
  • Approves data model changes as a reviewer and code owner for specific data domains.
  • Builds actionable insight for the business using data visualization tools. (We use QlikSense and ThoughtSpot)
  • Builds close relationships with other functional teams to truly democratize data understanding and access.
  • Cleans and models large quantities of raw, disorganized data using code-based tools. (We leverage DBT)
  • Clearly and concisely communicates complex business logic, technical requirements, and design recommendations through iterative solutions.
  • Collaborates on SQL code base, creating analysis and transformations. (We use Snowflake)
  • Collaborates with business units across UniGroup in building self-service, dashboard, and reporting solutions to deliver useful analysis and strong data insights.
  • Confidently delivers and explains data analytics methodologies and improvements with minimal guidance and support from other team members. Collaborate with the team on larger projects.
  • Contributes to, implements, and maintains best practices and standards in functional areas (data warehousing, data modeling, coding, visualization, and analysis) keeping reliability, performance, scalability, security, automation, and versioning in mind.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates, including providing clear status updates.
  • Engages in discussions of technical design and architecture recommendations.
  • Explains trends across data sources, potential opportunities for growth or improvement, and data peculiarities to deliver descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, forecasting, and prescriptive data analysis.
  • Follows and improves processes and workflows for maintaining high quality data and reporting.
  • Helps to define and improve our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for our data environment. Maintains and advocates these standards through code review.
  • Implements data quality tests and continuously review, optimize, and refactor data models in order to expand our data environments with ready to analyze data.
  • Influences and implements service level framework SLOs and SLAs for data sources and data services.
  • Influences overall objectives and long-range goals of team.
  • Owns the end to end process of being on-call including reading logs, diagnosing issues, verifying and implementing solutions, and otherwise providing data support for UniGroup team members.
  • Participates in data quality process and other data auditing activities.
  • Proactively works on the efficiency and capacity planning to set clear requirements and reduce the system resources usage to make compute queries cheaper.
  • Provides mentorship for Junior and Intermediate Data Analysts on your team to help them grow in their technical responsibilities and remove blockers to their autonomy.
  • Solves technical problems of high scope and complexity.
  • Turns learnings into repeatable actions by documenting work in the appropriate shared location.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Education, License or Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Communications, Psychology, Business or equivalent experience.
Experience:
  • 3-6 years of experience as a Business/Data Analyst or in related field
  • Minimum 6 years of experience with SQL writing required
  • Comfortable working in a highly agile, iterative environment using Jira.
  • Ability to work with Git and the command line preferred
  • Experience with a variety of data sources. (Our data includes many custom and internal applications, as well as Google Analytics, HubSpot, and more.)
  • Significant experience in SQL and DBT required
  • Experience with performance and optimization problems, particularly at large scale, and a demonstrated ability to both diagnose and prevent those problems.
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Knowledgeable about UniGroup’s architecture, APIs, and tech stake.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of how data is created and transformed through the UniGroup ecosystem to drive business operations, customer experience, service usage, and data reporting capabilities.
  • Project experience working with SQL, Python, R, or other methods to generate insights.
  • Self-motivated, and self-managing, with strong organizational skills.
  • Understand the code base extremely well to lead new data innovation and to spot inconsistencies and edge cases.
  • Understands the full data lifecycle and our common frameworks so that data can be easily integrated, modeled, and analyzed for insights.
