The AI/ML Engineering team at Levi is on a mission to build a next generation capability that will accelerate model deployment in production from taking months to a couple of weeks As the Senior Machine Learning Engineer within this org, you will work alongside the Data Science team to operationalize the ML models in production on a broad set of domains that power a data-driven transformation of our standard business procedures across channels and organizations. You will develop and deploy novel approaches to optimize existing machine learning systems to maximize their value and increase consumer satisfaction at every brand touchpoint. We need someone who will bring thoughtful solutions, perspective, empathy, creativity, and a positive attitude to solve problems in our ever-growing DTC business.

You are a proactive and self-driven engineer looking to take on challenges and the opportunity to grow. Taking ownership and driving results while being a team player are all critical ingredients. You are logical and have strong reasoning to balance solution vs risk taking.

Job Description
  • Identify new opportunities to improve business processes and improve consumer experiences, and prototype solutions to demonstrate value with a crawl, walk, run mindset.
  • Work with data scientists and analysts to create and deploy new product features on the ecommerce website, in-store portals and the Levi's mobile app
  • Implement end-to-end solutions across the full breadth of ML model development lifecycle. The specific role includes working hand in hand with the scientists from the point of data exploration for model development to the point of building features, ml pipelines and deploying them in production. You will have an opportunity to work on both batch and real time models. The role also involves operational support.
  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for data analyses, model development, validation and implementation
  • Write efficient and scalable software to ship products in an iterative, continual-release environment
  • Contribute to and promote good software engineering practices across the team and build cloud native software for ML pipelines
  • Contribute to and re-use community best practices
  • Embody the values and passions that characterize Levi Strauss & Co., with empathy to engage with colleagues from multiple backgrounds

    • Unified consumer profile with probabilistic record linkage
    • Visual search for similar and complementary products
More About You
  • University or advanced degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
  • 7+ years' experience developing and deploying machine learning systems into production
  • Experience working in one of the popular public clouds
  • Experience working with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with at least one cloud provider solution (AWS, GCP, Azure) and understanding of serverless code development
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
  • Previous experience developing predictive models in a production environment, MLOps and model integration into larger scale applications.
  • Knowledge of data pipeline and workflow management tools
  • Expertise in standard software engineering methodology, e.g. unit testing, test automation, continuous integration, code reviews, design documentation
  • Working experience with native ML orchestration systems such as Kubeflow, Step Functions, MLflow, Airflow, TFX...
  • Relevant working experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a big plus

The expected starting salary range for this role is $162,800-$230,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range based on the location of the role. The amount a particular employee will earn within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance and business needs.
