Our challenge

We’re looking for a big data engineer who loves solving complex problems across a full spectrum of technologies. The ideal candidate is excited by experimentation and looking for a new challenge that stretches their talents. The big data engineer will help ensure that our technological infrastructure operates seamlessly in support of business objectives.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $120k - $125k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement pipelines that extract, transform, and load data into an information product that helps the organization reach its strategic goals
  • Focus on ingesting, storing, processing, and analyzing large datasets
  • Create scalable, high-performance web services for tracking data
  • Translate complex technical and functional requirements into detailed designs
  • Investigate alternatives for data storing and processing to ensure implementation of the most streamlined solutions
  • Serve as a mentor for junior staff members by conducting technical training sessions and reviewing project outputs.

Requirements:

You are:

  • 5+ years application development experience in Hadoop, Spark and Java/Scala.
  • 10+ years application development experience in Java and Spring Framework
  • 5+ years in developing and optimizing Big Data applications using Java/Scala and Spark on Cloudera/HDP.
  • Experience in developing/designing micro-service architecture.
  • Extensive experience in one of the cloud providers AWS/Azure and migrating large scale complex projects from on-prem to Cloud including in-between hybrid options
  • Proven hands-on experience in containerization – Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift etc.
  • Experience in developing applications in Spring & Spring Boot
  • Programming experience in Python (2+ years)
  • Working knowledge of Jenkins CI, Git, CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders – business and technical

It would be great if you also had:

  • Experience in building end to end data pipelines on AWS/Azure and/or Databricks
  • Knowledge of Market Risk/Capital Markets/Banking.
