Position Overview

The Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Data Analyst. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the ACHRI Deputy Director, this position requires independent work, strategic leadership, decision making, time management and superior organizational skills. It is dynamic and has a broad scope that requires a diversity of technical skills and experience. The Data Analyst will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of a highly complex initiative with a high volume of work, competing priorities, and diverse stakeholders. The position is driven by constant, multiple and simultaneous deadlines, continuous change and emerging priorities. The work environment is fast-paced, service-oriented and highly computerized.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Work with the Deputy Director and the institute leads related to impact and performance assessment on analysis of bibliometric, institutional and other impact data
  • Develop standardized tools for rapid turn around reporting and institutional analysis
  • Actively facilitate connections between ACHRI members and members of other relevant University Faculties, Departments and Institutes
  • Seek out new opportunities and provide recommendations to enhance technology, processes and collaboration
  • Be the bridge between technical, data, clinical, and research experts
  • Act as lead liaison between clinicians/researchers and data program staff to set up plans and facilitate the interpretation of the results in the clinical context
  • Analyze and mine institutional data as required
  • Provide technical expertise for grant applications and publications, when required
  • Establish, implement, track and report on program and project process and successes

Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in a Computer Science, Data Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related fields. PhD preferred
  • 5 -10 years of demonstrated experience working with diverse data, ideally in a medical related field or research setting, is required
  • Big data analysis skills
  • Experience coding in programs such as Python, R, MatLab or C++ is required
  • Working knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques is an asset
  • Previous experience leading a technical or development team
  • Existing knowledge about data integration (e.g. software), data governance (e.g. access and utilization policies), and/or data analysis required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong time management, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills is required
  • Ab ility to work with data visualization applications
  • Experience developing and implementing internal processes to streamline operations and to facilitate reporting and service evaluation
  • Knowledge and ability to lead the development of robust project plans
  • A high level of flexibility and ability to adapt to changing workloads and priorities is required
  • Must maintain and respect the confidential nature of the work
  • Knowledge of University of Calgary and AHS processes, systems and best practices (e.g. PeopleSoft, eFIN) an asset
  • Familiarity with multivariate statistical techniques and theory is an asset
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics methods and tools is an asset
