Bioimaging Data Analyst (m/f/d) - 2 years contract

At GSK, we recognize the unprecedented potential offered by recent advancements in spatial technologies. These advancements are revolutionizing our understanding of biology by enabling multimodal high-resolution molecular and cellular phenotyping of tissue samples.

To strengthen our single cell spatial omics team in Heidelberg (Germany), we are seeking a highly motivated Bioimaging Data Analyst (m/f/d), whose key responsibilities will include the development of novel and the optimization of existing data processing and analysis methods for cutting edge spatial omics readouts of biological samples such as tissues, biopsies or complex in vitro models. In this role, you will develop methods for processing imaging data to leverage the full ability of spatial readouts to deeply characterize human tissues and organs at a molecular level.

You will closely work with multidisciplinary teams in translational research, computational biology, AIML, disease experts and academic collaborators with the aim of identifying novel targets and biomarkers based on pathological relevance to human disease.

The position will be based in Heidelberg, at Cellzome, a fully embedded part of GSK’s Research and Development (R&D), located on the campus of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, a diverse and stimulating environment that provides a unique mixture of backgrounds and expertise.

Successful candidates will detail in their applications how their qualifications, skills and experience make them ideally suited to the responsibilities and requirements of the role.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and development of novel data processing and analysis methods for image-based spatial omics technologies
  • Building robust data quality control and processing pipelines
  • Set up and maintenance of data processing methods for multiparametric readouts in collaboration with data engineering departments
  • Data integrity management
  • Integration of different multiomics modalities (e.g. paired spatial transcriptomics and AI-powered pathology)
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, and academic partners to bring innovative ideas and drive projects to successful completion

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Bioinformatics, Medicine, or related disciplines)
  • Strong scientific expertise and knowledge in microscopy and image analysis technologies of tissues demonstrated through publications and contributions to the field
  • Excellent programming skills in relevant programming languages such as Python and R
  • Expertise in statistical and ML methods preferred
  • Knowledge in respiratory disorders is preferred
  • Skilled in planning and execution of research projects, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary matrix team
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving research environment
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in English
  • German knowledge is nice-to-have, but not necessary
