About MAIHEM
At MAIHEM, our mission is to ensure that AI benefits all of humanity.
We are a Y Combinator-backed AI startup that just raised a $6 million seed round.
We are building a state-of-the-art simulation platform using AI agents that stress-test other AI applications. We enable companies to assess and optimize the performance, reliability, and security of their AI systems through hyper-realistic user simulations. We ensure AI systems work reliably for all humans and across all real-world use cases – not just on academic benchmarks.
Our Culture
We are building an all-star team and we want our founding members to set the highest bar in terms of work ethics, drive to improve, and teamwork. Our key values are:
- Nerdy, friendly, relentlessly curious – we are proud and friendly nerds and we intensely love what we do!
- Work hard, play hard – we often have to work 60+ hour weeks and expect the same from our team. We also have lots of fun as a team inside and outside of the office.
- Meritocracy, always – you own and earn your destiny. The best argument wins, not the loudest voice or the most senior team member.
- Diversity and inclusion among humans – for diversity and fairness reflected in AI.
Why Work at MAIHEM
- We ensure AI will benefit all of humanity.
- We have the resources to achieve our mission. We have raised a $6 million seed round backed by Y Combinator, Moonfire, Firstminute, SciFi, Urban Innovation Fund, and other world-class investors including founders from PayPal, Slack, and Deel.
- We are developing cutting-edge AI technology by leveraging our PhD research on safety for autonomous vehicles and natural language processing.
- We have customers and are growing fast. It’s the perfect timing, a massive market, and we’re assembling an all-star team to build a multi-billion dollar company.
- Work with two YC founders & AI PhDs to solve a generational problem.
About the Founders
Max Ahrens (CEO) did his PhD and Postdoc in Natural Language Processing at the University of Oxford. During his Postdoc, he was also a research project leader working with the Alan Turing Institute and the British Ministry of Defence. Previously, he worked as a consultant with McKinsey, advising globally operating companies on digitization strategies.
Eduardo Candela (CTO) holds a PhD in AI Safety for Autonomous Vehicles at Imperial College London, and an MSc in Operations Research from MIT. Eduardo is deeply passionate about building state-of-the-art AI products – he previously worked as a technical program manager at Tesla and a data scientist at the Bosch Center for AI.
