Business Intelligence Analyst

Job description

The Business Intelligence Analyst’s role is to direct, evaluate, review, and perform application development services across the organization while ensuring high levels of data quality. This individual is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing applications and databases using Microsoft SQL and Power BI to manage data and business intelligence reporting. Where required, the Business Intelligence Analyst will design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance-tune production applications and databases.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and administer strategies for the control and sharing of company database resources and services.
  • Work with business users and application development staff to develop reporting applications and database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Develop long-term goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Use standard project planning methodologies to manage complex projects.

Operational Management

  • Analyze user requirements for reports, forms, queries, and data extraction.
  • Develop and deploy end user facing reports and apps using Power BI.
  • Develop and deploy tools for data extraction, queries, and data manipulation in accordance with business processes.
  • Develop ETL routines for integrating source data into Data Warehouse.
  • Design database schemas to serve data to end users.
  • Provide end-user training, as necessary, with regards to the effective and efficient use of database tools and resources.
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Create and document models for new database development and/or changes to existing ones through data flowcharting.
  • Ensure the stability and reliability of data access and data quality across the organization via ongoing database support and maintenance.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to databases and reports.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of business intelligence development efforts.

Qualifications:

Formal Education & Certification

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or related field and 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications in Microsoft development tools.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers, including Microsoft SQL.

  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Understanding of financial and business process, terminology, and methods
  • Commercial Real Estate experience
