Overview

This is an amazing opportunity to jump start your career in Data Engineering & earn an excellent qualification at the same time!

By joining the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust as an Apprentice Data Engineer, you’ll work towards a BSc (Hons) in Digital & Technology Solutions with QAat the University of Roehampton. We’d like you to specialise in Data Analysis.

You’ll have 20% of your time protected for studies and receive training and support from the team to learn on-the-job. After 36 months you’ll gain your qualification and will keep your permanent position.

While studying and with the appropriate support from the team, you’ll build data flows, model datasets and program business logic in the Trust’s Data Platform. You’ll solve technical problems and debug complex issues.

You’ll be a key member of the team and you’ll be involved in important and exciting projects that make a difference to the organisation & our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand our customers, stakeholders and their requirements
  • Investigate and interpret data from clinical systems
  • Build data flows & transfer data into our Data Platform
  • Design & build Data Models for consistency, useability & efficiency
  • Build processes Business Logic
  • Integrate Datasets to contribute to the holistic view of clinical data
  • Work with Information Analysts to help leverage data effectively
  • Debug complex issues & problem Solve on-the-fly

Skills & Qualities

  • Motivated to work towards a BSc in Digital & Technology Solutions
  • Passionate about Data Engineering & Continued Professional Development
  • A good foundation in understanding & experience of Data Engineering methods & technologies
  • Practical experience using the Microsoft Data Stack, particularly SQL Server
  • An understanding and appreciation of Database & Data Warehouse design
  • A belief in & appreciation for the NHS & a desire to contribute

Entry Requirements

Before you apply, there are some entry requirements to consider:

  • 2 A levels in one or more similar subjects
  • Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
  • International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in a similar subject
  • BTEC Extended Diploma in a similar subject
  • A Work experience route (2-3 years) in a similar subject-related role

Unfortunately, you can’t be considered for this apprenticeship if you already have an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar subject.

There is an elibility criteria for goverment funded apprenticeships which requires the applicant to be aged 16+, be a resident in the UK/EU for the last three years. Applicants cannot have achieved a qualification at the same level or above in the same pathway as this will exempt them from be able to undertake the apprenticeship.

Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment. For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeship's English and Maths minimum requirement is Entry Level 3. A British Sign Language qualification is an alternative to the English qualification for those whose primary language is BSL.
