The Data Analyst conducts systems and business analysis and writes extracts, analyses and Business Intelligence reports. The Data Analyst writes new reports and maintains existing reports and data extraction routines for application systems. The reports are for the business areas to allow them to understand and monitor their areas performance. The Data Analyst works with other staff, including the Senior Developer/Architect, Senior Business Analysts, Systems Analysts and Database Administrators, to ensure reports and data extracts are built according to user requirements and departmental standards.
What you'll do
- Develop specifications for reports and data extracts which impact several functional areas throughout the BCEHS/PHSA by performing duties such as conducting systems analysis to gather detailed information from user departments, developing and documenting reporting and extracting procedures.
- Extract analyzes and reports on data from various database sources such as SQL Server, Oracle, Access, using tools such as MicroStrategy, MS Excel, PL/SQL and data models and data dictionaries. Analyze data from multiple data sources, developing/improving performance indicators and preparing/publishing reports for various audience groups.
- Provide support for reports and data extraction routines by performing tasks such as monitoring, maintenance, modification and enhancement tasks according to departmental standards and using tools such as Visual Studio, MicroStrategy, Oracle Developer, and Crystal Reports and other query tools.
- Maintain contact with the Senior Developer/Architect and/or Senior Business Analysts and/or Systems Analysts and/or Database Administrators with regard to items such as progress issues, and suggestions for data reporting and extraction improvement by performing tasks such as preparing progress reports, and documenting any immediate or potential problems.
- Identify issues with data and takes initiative in working out optimal solutions with appropriate stakeholders to improve accuracy, timeliness, connectivity and other data issues.
- Conduct multi-layer data analysis independently by linking data from multiple health information data sources
- Ensure work steps/processes are documented so work can be successfully repeated when required.
- Ensure that appropriate protections are used in handling data and appropriate authorizations are obtained for releasing data/reports.
- Ensure that Quality Assurance (QA) best practices are maintained by performing tasks such as unit testing, user acceptance testing, code reviews, post implementation analysis and other QA activities to departmental standards.
- Ensure that deployed data reporting and extraction solutions are sustainable by performing tasks such as change management, documenting programming changes, participating in system implementation, and writing and maintaining system documentation to departmental standards.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- Graduation from a recognized degree or diploma program in Computer Science, two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
