The Data Scientist will be a key member of the data platform team, applying strong expertise in machine learning, data mining, and information retrieval to design, prototype, and build the next generation analytics engines and services to optimize activities across multiple functions such as pricing, warehousing, and procurement. As the first member of Radwell’s evolving data platform, the data scientist will be expected to be a thought leader in the data and analytics space by proving the value of advanced analytics to the business. The Radwell data scientist is a forward thinking innovator who understands how to use data to solve next generational problems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES May be modified from time to time. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Build an understanding of all Radwell International operational functions (i.e. sales order processing, purchasing, inventory management, shipping, and accounting) and all related software systems that govern and interact with those processes.
  • Build an intimate knowledge of the data sources, data structures, and data fields in Radwell’s environment, with the goal of using this data to generate and within data studies
  • Understands business problems and designs end to end analytics use cases
  • Develops complex models and algorithms that drive innovation through the organization. This may include improving on-time performance, network planning, etc.
  • Conducts advanced statistical analysis to provide actionable insights, identify trends, measure performance, and develop recommendations
  • Provides thought leadership by researching best practices, conducting experiments, and collaborating with industry leaders
  • Acts as a coach and leader for the rest of the data team, effectively collaborating and sharing expertise with other data platform team members
  • Uses data to tell a compelling story, using visualizations of modelling results to convey value
  • Required to gain additional specialized knowledge of procedures and data structures as needed within the context of specific projects
  • Utilize SQL, Excel, and Python to analyze data for data studies
  • Other tasks may also be required from time to time, at the discretion of management, in order to achieve department and company objectives.
METRICS

Data Scientists are required to complete daily, weekly, and monthly commitments as directed by IT Management. They will be measured on the quality of their work; the efficiency which with they implement new reports and report changes; and on how effectively they accomplish their tasks.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Not applicable. This position has no direct reports.

Qualifications

It is essential that candidate possesses or can quickly acquire the necessary knowledge of the following systems which are crucial to the business:
  • Windows
  • Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Excel (expert)
  • MS SQL Server
  • Python
  • Experience using statistical software like (R or Stata)
  • MS Visual Studio
Knowledge & Skills Required
  • Experience working with large data sets using tools like Pandas as well as writing SQL queries. Other experience with data platforms like MongoDB, Spark, as well as simulation/optimization and distributed computing tools preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong desire to work in cross functional teams. Ability to present extremely complex technical information in a business friendly manner
  • Experience developing production ready solutions in a hybrid cloud environment. Specific experience with Microsoft Azure and AzureML suite of tools preferred
  • A passion for staying up to date with the latest trends and advancements in the field
  • Team player who can coach and be coached as needed. Openness to adapting your approach for the betterment of the team
  • Strong ability to not only use data as a tool for answering key business questions, but also has the intellectual curiosity to ask new questions to find opportunities for improvement on business objectives
  • Strong technical ability and eagerness to learn new technologies and skills
  • Attitude to thrive in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
Education & Experience
  • MS/PhD in computer science, statistics, or operations research or related technical discipline
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an analytics or data science role
  • Deep experience with Python. Additional experience in R and .NET preferred
