We are seeking an Associate Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and storage solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience with SQL, ETL tools, AWS, and big data technologies. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams are essential. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of data pipelines for the Enterprise Individual Mastering Platform (EiMP), which consolidates individual data from multiple sources, including eligibility, pharmacy, and patient data
  • Support real-time data ingestion using tools like Kafka, as well as batch processing using Spark
  • Perform data analysis using AWS tools such as Athena to support various business needs
  • Generate reports and dashboards to provide insights and support decision-making processes
  • Participate in the monitoring and maintenance of data quality and integrity across various data sources
  • Assist in resolving data-related issues and discrepancies to ensure accurate and reliable data for the organization
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation for data pipelines, processes, and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions
  • Provide support for ad hoc data requests and troubleshooting under the supervision of senior team members

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience working with SQL and experience in querying relational databases
  • 1+ years of experience understanding of data engineering concepts and practices
  • 1+ years of experience working with programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala
  • 1+ years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS is a plus
  • 1+ years of experience working in developing reports in Tableau or equivalent reporting interface (PowerBI)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of data formats like JSON, XML, and CSV
  • Internship or academic project experience in data engineering or a related field is advantageous but not required
  • Understanding of eligibility, claim, and clinical systems is a plus
  • Familiarity with data ingestion tools like Kafka and data processing frameworks like Spark is a plus

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
